In today’s world we aren’t really tempted like the people of the Old Testament to carve wooden or stone gods to worship. But we are tempted to let images develop in our hearts to which we give an inordinate amount of affection and attention. Which really is the essence of idolatry, putting something above or beyond our affections of the Lord. Our affection of the Lord is to be first, even before religiosity, power, money, relationships, and a belief in immortality. In this final sermon in the series, Pastor Doug looks at our fascination and strivings to live forever through extreme exercise, cosmetic surgery, eating disorders, take performance enhancing drugs, the need to always be on the latest diet, and more in an effort to extend our lives in this world.
